Teeth whitening

What is whitening?
Teeth whitening is a procedure aimed at achieving a lighter shade of teeth.
It is based on the chemical reaction of active ingredients (most often hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) with stains on the teeth. These substances break down stains at the molecular level, making teeth visually brighter. Whitening is a completely safe procedure that does not damage the tooth enamel, and during the 10 days following the whitening, patients are advised to avoid dark pigmented drinks and foods.
Types of Whitening
Professional whitening
is performed in a dental office. The dentist applies stronger concentrations of whitening gel, using special lamps for faster results. The treatment lasts about 2 hours, and results are visible immediately after the procedure is completed.
At-home whitening
involves using lower concentration products, such as gels, whitening strips, or custom trays filled with gel. These products are used over several days or weeks, depending on the desired result.

TEETH WHITENING
OVERVIEW
1.
The dentist assesses whether you qualify for the whitening procedure. Whitening is not advised for those with gum inflammation or untreated oral issues (like cavities). The patient must resolve these issues before proceeding with whitening.
TEETH SCALING AND SAND BLASTING
2.
Whitening shows optimal results on clean, smooth teeth. Thus, tartar cleaning and possibly sandblasting to eliminate surface stains should be done prior to the actual procedure.
WHITENING
3.
Once the initial tooth shade is assessed, a protective gel is applied to the gums, while rubber or plastic holders protect the lips and cheeks.
