Dental Prosthetics
Dental prosthetics is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the restoration and replacement of lost or damaged teeth. The goal of dental prosthetics is to improve oral health, chewing function, and the aesthetics of the smile.
There are several main types of dental prosthetics:
- Crowns: Cover and protect damaged teeth, returning their natural shape, size, and strength.
- Veneers: Thin shells placed on the front surface of teeth to enhance their appearance.
- Bridges: Used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are anchored to adjacent teeth or implants.
- Dentures: Removable replacements for lost teeth and surrounding tissues. They can be complete (for the entire jaw) or partial (for partial tooth loss).
- Implants: Metal screws inserted into the jawbone as a replacement for the root of a lost tooth. Crowns, bridges, or dentures can be placed on implants.
Dental prosthetics plays a key role in restoring the functionality and aesthetics of the smile, improving the quality of life for patients.
